NORTHERN NEVADA VEGETABLE PLANTING GUIDE                                                                                                                (These are approximate dates. Year-to-year variation may need to be considered.)      

February 15   Start indoors seeds  for April 1^st transplanting out under walls-of-water (w-o-w’s) - tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, etc.

April 15   Plant potatoes.  For a jump-start, plant squash, cucumber or melon seeds  into soil under  w-o-w’s.  

May 15   Seed or transplant into soil without protection - cucumbers, corn,  melons, okra, peppers, tomatoes, basil, sweet potatoes, eggplant,  beans, squash, pumpkins, and other warm season crops - Keep covers handy just in case a freeze is expected!

May  15 - 31   Remove w-o-w’s as weather warms (early morning only).

July  5     Latest recommended planting of corn.                 

July 15   For a fall crop. seed into soil - carrots, beets, mesclun mixes, cole, etc. 

Oct. 1 - 31   Plant garlic and shallot cloves while the soil is warm so they can root before the ground freezes   

*  cabbage, kohlrabi, chard, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collards, and more  

**    lettuces, mustards,  arugula, Asian  greens,  beets,  cress, endive,  mizuna,  radicchio,  sorrel, spinach, and  such

***   onions, shallots, leeks, bunching onions, green onions, chives, etc.    

****  tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, tomatillo, basil, and other cold sensitive plants
